The plays are almost pick-em but splitting leads to positions that are easier to play so I think it's pretty clearly the right play for a weaker player at GS. But against an even or weaker player, I would trust the GNU RO and slot. If you're missed you've got the 5-point, if ur hit you've got good diversification on your next roll: 6s/1s which you can't/don't want to use to re-enter hit back, 3s which are kind of a neutral number to re-enter with also hit, 2s cover the 11-point, while 4s and 5s start an advanced anchor.
