I think you are supposed to go for two, even with this much time left in the game.

If you trade field goals, you regret not going for two, and the one point you did get is useless. If you trade touchdowns, you will end up going for two, anyway (as happened in the game), so it is no better to risk missing the two point conversion now rather than later.

However, if you succeed now with the two point conversion, you put much more pressure on the opponent by playing from a tied score instead of trailing by one.
