Ethics Revised

I didn't say "avoid anything backgammon," though you must mean you believe any discussion of backgammon might allow you to learn something that would help you during your ongoing match--and thus that a discussion of past situations from the ongoing match is really no different from discussing anything about backgammon.
Nor did I say that talking about situations from the past match is unethical in all cases, just dubious. In other words, it may be unethical depending on the specific case.
But if you mean what I think you mean, you have a fair point. Please clarify.
The ethics that I believe apply: You should do your studying and get your extra help at times when a match is not going on.
Obviously, enforcement of a rule prohibiting discussion is next to impossible, and as I said, there are cases when discussion of previous situations in an ongoing match won't hurt anything.
So I would write the rule to say that discussion of specific situations from the ongoing match is discouraged, and that consulting bots or other external aids for analysis of such positions is forbidden.
Alternatively, the rules could explicitly say that during dinner breaks, bots could be consulted, positions discussed, coaching could be sought and given, with no restrictions. I don't like that option, but if I'm in the minority, so be it.
