If it wasn't for the match Kit would just cube him out with the diagram you posted, I assume the cube is in the wrong position.

John must start with 66, then his next roll must be 66. After that Kit has to miss with an ace on one of his turns & John has to roll 3s or better. I won't believe it until I hear it from one of them.
