Some things do need to change, but players can also help the weekend's events flow better

Richard ..."The problem is not the Main. The problem is all of the extra rounds in the Consolation. That is where things backed up."
Neil replies: The main was 13 pts and proceeded in a timely manner, noting that I saw the semis and finalists names here quicker than I expected. Was the conso 11 pts or 9 pts ? When you consider all the MANY side events there, and all the players feeding into the conso round by round, I hope that the conso was 9 pts. Then if time permits maybe the finals or even semis could be 11.
Neil again stresses: Much of the issue with the delays from conso stem from the fact that in most events that for some stupid reason don't have a progressive LC, the conso has to play down to almost the money round or to the money round very late Saturday night or the LC will drag Sunday. The typical ABT weekend isn't Monte Carlo with 6 days for the event nor is it Vegas with 4 days so.... lets make ALL ABT Last Chances Progressive and lets do it NOW !! or just get rid of the Last Chance and we'll see so many fewer conflicts on Sunday and more players will have a better time.
Richard.."Also, I need to say that people need to be aware that when they finish a match and their next opponent is ready to play that they should not be standing around gabbing, discussing positions, entering positions into the computer, or otherwise wasting time getting right to their next match. Sure a short break is reasonable. But just because it is early Saturday does not mean that you will not ultimately be the one who was responsible for people playing at 1 AM on Saturday Night. Clocks can't clock matches that are not being played. Goof around when you are waiting for someone else."
Neil replies...100% agreement. The players can also do their part to make sure that the event flows smoothly. This means paying attention to the drawsheet and if your bracket is lagging, sit down and play your next match promptly. Even if it is not lagging, sit down and play. Only if your bracket is a match ahead, should you even consider a few extra minutes delay before you start. Players constantly think that when dinner break starts at 5PM they don't have to start their next match at 4:30 or even 4:15 ! If you want to go to dinner early rather than playing, get approval from the director, and before asking, make sure that your bracket isn't behind. Also to all players, when you see a match prgressing very slowly and more importantly when it will hold up your progress in the event, tell the staff !
With some improved formats (progressive LC for starters) (also methods that were discussed for handling a bracket of 48 with no early byes to name something else since waiting for byes sucks), and clocks in the main, and responsible players, maybe the horror story the Richard had to endure will become much less common.
