Richard: The problem is not the Main. The problem is all of the extra rounds in the Consolation. That is where things backed up.

Neil replies: The main was 13 pts and proceeded in a timely manner, noting that I saw the semis and finalists names here quicker than I expected. Was the conso 11 pts or 9 pts ? When you consider all the MANY side events there, and all the players feeding into the conso round by round, I hope that the conso was 9 pts. Then if time permits maybe the finals or even semis could be 11.

Yes, the consolation matches were 9 points. Nobody had more than four main event matches to play on Saturday, which is as light a Saturday ME schedule as you're likely to find, regardless of format.

Schedule-wise, it doesn't matter very much what is done with the players who lose out of the main flight in the early rounds. They tend to catch up, because they're playing shorter matches than the folks who are still in alive in the main flight. The bottleneck always involves the last group of people to feed down into the Cons, usually the round of 8 losers.
