Bankroll Management

I'm trying to draw a parallel to bankroll management in poker. Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson stated that you should not risk more than 5% of your total bankroll in a single session, that should hopefully allow for enough short-term variance to not affect your play. For NL200, that means a bankroll of at least $4000, which to many people, sounds excessive.
For backgammon, as Richard said, I have also seen the "100 points per session" figure mentioned. At $1/pt, that's $100. However, I don't know what is a prudent bankroll if you limited each session to 100 points. Going by the poker analogy, your total bankroll should be 2000 points, but I would suspect that that IS quite excessive.
