Clocks in Charlotte

My observation is that it was very smooth using the clocks -- no problems, no bitching that I heard. Generally, no one got close to running out of time except a couple of UBK matches. I saw UBK and Julius High both get very very low in a Queen City Cup match. Julius was up 12-11 Crawford and UBK gammoned him on the last game for the match. They each had less than 20 seconds reserve remaining. Had UBK not won the gammon and it went to another game, it would have been very interesting. And today, UBK and Victor Ashkenazi were both down around 10 seconds remaining in a Last Chance match won by Victor. I saw MCG get very low in a couple of matches, but seems as though he is from the UBK school of using most every second.
But, overall, I would say it was a very successful usage of the clocks. It was so nice to sit down to a match with the clock already set up next to the board and there was no questions whatsoever.
Neither I nor any of my opponents ever got anywhere close to a time problem. My clock use preference is more based on the use of a single set of dice and the consequent no fast rolls, no disputed rolls, etc.
