Clocks in Charlotte

If strong opinions are voiced on this board- and I share these opinions- in favor of clocked play to speed up the tournament, and we then say that using all the allotted time will delay the tournament, then I suggest we have the wrong time settings.
I played all five of my Open matches- unfortunately to a record of 2-3 and not 5-0 :-) - with the clock and nobody gave a peep about using the clock.
I did overhear Carter on Saturday mentioning that he had a six hour wait between matches. Which leads me to one conclusion and one recommendation. I'll conclude that clocks will not really speed up the entire bracket until it is clocks mandatory, not just clocks allowed, or insistable, or Clocks-OR, or whatever it is called. Furthermore, I'll recommend that if a player is alive in any clocked event and any non-clocked event, that the clocked event should take precedence to the extent that if a player has an opponent in a clocked event and is currently in a non-clocked event, the non-clocked match should be paused at the completion of the current game, so that the clocked match starts as soon as possible.
Better yet, clock everything, and I mean everything, except, possibly, novice.
