Clocks in Charlotte

Clocks should simply never be a reason for people to play slower than they would off the clock.
I disagree.
I am pretty sure I play slower when I'm playing with a clock. The reason is that without a clock, I am cognizant of slow play. When I'm playing with a clock, now I know that nobody can possibly point any fingers at me about slow play.
I have a bad habit of generally playing too quickly, and not thinking through various options or considering other options. The clock gives me the freedom to slow down and really think. It may seem paradoxical, but I see it as regulating my thinking time.
I assure you that I am not the problem when it comes to holding up tournaments. I say that because there is one thing that unites all backgammon players together, everywhere, regardless of skill or experience. Every single backgammon player KNOWS that they are a faster than average player.
