"Don't like this either. The finals are to a lower point total than the preceeding rounds."

Again, I see no problem with this. It is unusual, but still, I got bored watching long final matches years ago, so I think it is reasonable.

Also, by keeping the finals shorter, you have more time for the rest of the tournament which benefits more players, not just the strong finalist against the lucky fish finalist you often see in tournaments.
