Clocks Allowed at local club

It is BYOC- Bring your own clock. I had one and used it in both matches, UBK had one and I don't know if he used it on all four of his matches, he probably did. I know Joe Freedman has a clock but I'm not sure if he brought it or used it. Most of the matches by far were probably not clocked. But I expect that over time more players will buy clocks. I expect that players that play in ABT events will eventually get clocks and the casual player probably won't bother.
Our time controls are 2.5 min / 15 second delay with are *more* than generous. In fact I had earlier thought that 15 seconds was the proper delay for the Open level but after having played 2 min / 12 in Charlotte and then locally I now think that 2/12 is the perfect time control for the ABT Open level.
My second match was against a new player- only his second time there. I told him about the new clock policy and he asked if we could play without one. I proposed that we play with the clock, but without penalty; that is, if his time ran out there would be no penalty. I told him it was better to get used to the mechanics this way rather than having to play with a clock the first time against some tough guy like UBK or Ed O'Laughlin or Joe Freedman. So he agreed to this. In fact, I told him to play at his normal pace and not to even look at the clock display, just hit the plunger, so he could then gauge his pace against the time controls. Well, after he finished me off in about 4 games we observed that he had hardly used more than a minute or so of his reserve time.
I don't like changing up rules in the middle of the year but I may revisit the time controls after this year. I probably won't go to 2/12 like the ABT but I may take one of the measures to that level; that is, from 2.5/15 to either 2/15 or 2.5/12.
