In Response To: Clocks Allowed at local club (Barry Silliman)

Our time controls are 2.5 min / 15 second delay with are *more* than generous. In fact I had earlier thought that 15 seconds was the proper delay for the Open level but after having played 2 min / 12 in Charlotte and then locally I now think that 2/12 is the perfect time control for the ABT Open level.

Here's a question: why do all ABT events need to have the same TCs? They are scheduled differently, some have more time, some have less time. Why not 2/12 (or 1.5/15 or whatever) for 2-day events like Charlotte and 2.5/15 (or whatever) for longer events like Vegas? This has a lot of precedent in the chess world. And it might be appealing to Howard or other TDs who hold multi-day events.

I also don't think that TCs scale linearly; IMO 2/12 for a 5 point match is fairly fast but fairly slow for an 11 point match.
