Clocks Allowed at local club

Right, Daniel, I stated initially to take this observation with a grain of salt. (Thanks for playing, btw, hope to see you again in the future). I'm sure that the fact that it had been 6 weeks since our last tournament had nothing to do with the attendance either!
In fact I didn't make explicit mention of the clock policy on Sunday because- A) I knew that most players wouldn't have clocks anyway, and B) I asked our club heavyweights (UBK and Ed O'Laughlin) on the ride down to Charlotte to go easy on newbies regarding clock usage so as to not scare people off. In fact I intend to go easy as well, and then when my second opponent was a newbie I decided that rather than play with no clock I'd offer to play with no penalty. The result was what I expected, that he didn't even come close to getting into time trouble.
Besides eliminating ridiculously slow play (which has been a very infrequent problem over the years), I want aspiring local players to be comfortable with playing with clocks so that the Baltimore-Washington area can continue to be well-represented in the winner's circle at the national and international level!! :-)
FWIW, as of right now, if I was running an ABT event, I'd make time controls 2/12 at Open, 2.5/15 at Advanced, 2.5/18 at Novice and any Doubles.
