OT sickening officiating

The Cardinal player stumbles in an attempt to block a field goal and runs over the holder -- a personal foul, no doubt; not intentional, no doubt. The kick had already been made. Whether the kick was good or not, the ball would belong to the Cardinals -- at the spot or via a kickoff.
"Post possession"? Maybe. A Steeler could have touched the ball, without ever 'possessing' the ball, and the Cardinals could have recovered. Doesn't quite seem, in my opinion, like "post possession" in the same sense as the field goal try.
A field goal try can also be missed, touched by a defending player without possessing, and recovered by the kicking team.
