52D - 33

This is great analysis. I hope we see more of it. I'm starting an index of posts worth keeping. I've got this one on my list along with Stick's recent analysis of running with one back so I can find them again later.
Often in the opening, if you can spot the big swing numbers, you can find the right move OTB. In this case, the difference between 33A & 33C found in Stick's rollouts is .031. I did a quick estimate of the impact of the roll 52 alone. This accounts for approximately .015 of the total .031 variance. The net variance of the other 20 rolls combined is only .016. If you can spot that playing 33A protects the blot on the eight by blocking the hit with 52, you have a good chance of getting the correct move even without a deep understanding of the other concepts involved. Noticing the rolls with large immediate impact will often lead one to the correct move.
