There's no non-ugly play, and wasting pips is not too much of a concern here.

Seems we want that white checker on the roof to 1) miss our blot; 2) not hit our blot after we fail to cover it.

6/1(3) maximizes the chances for both. There are two fewer immediate shots from the roof with 13 blocked. And by opening the 6 point, we give white the chance to enter past our blot.
