I want to make sure I am understanding everything. The information includes: --- "Tournament Format, includes Main + Consolation + Last Chance (trophy events) 100% of all collected entry fees in the main events will be returned as prizes. Championship $430 + Registration Fee $70 (Side pool $150 / 95% return) Intermediate $150 + Registration Fee $50 (Side pool $50 / 95% return) Beginners $45 + Registration Fee $15 Calcutta Auction: 90% return, Auctioneer: Peter Kalba RECEIVE 20% DISCOUNT ON YOUR ENTRY FEE! Stay a minimum of three nights (single or double occupancy) at the Doubletree Hotel Crystal City and your main event entry fee (Championship, Intermediate, Beginners) will be reduced by 20%. Simply present proof of your room reservation at time of registration to receive your savings." ---
So taking into account the Reg. fee it is 86% return for championship and 75% for Int and beginner.
But there is more to take into account. Players taking advantage of the 20% hotel stay discount lower the prize pool since it is based only on collected entry fees. Is that correct? If so then the return to a player who does not stay at the hotel is substantially less than 85%, quite possibly lower than 75% which makes it extremely low for an ABT event. Especially one with such a large entry fee. Suppose that everyone stays at the hotel. The effect of the discount then is just to make it a lower entry fee for everyone. With the constant $75 registration it is then about an 83% percent return. Another thing that comes to mind is that when I read "of collected entry fees" I wonder if there have been any free or dicounted entries given out and if so do they not add to the prize pool.
The jackpot has a substantial 95% return. Is there a reg. fee for someone who plays only in the JP?
I am not making any claims as to what is an appropriate return but pointing out how this may be really low compared to other ABT events. I am guessing the DC area is expensive. Also I may have misinterpreted some things. I would appreciate clarification on what I've asked before making a decision on whether to play.
