I agree. I don't see any big deal with an audible alarm at all -- what could anyone find objectionable with a single audible alarm? The whole LA tourney was played with such settings and I've never heard the alarm to know what one sounds like.
I also agree with Neil on the time setting. Particularly for the inexperienced clock player (who perhaps is also a slightly less experienced player in general), if he/she only gets an alarm with ten seconds left they are no doubt toast. Just the shock/emotion/disruption will probably cost them the ten seconds. For longer matches perhaps we should adapt a little football terminology and go with a two-minute warning.
