Time warning for digital clocks

in Shogi byoyomi, there are usually warning beeps activated on the clocks. Byoyomi is a time control that is like a delay clock with no reserve time. (In byoyomi, reserve time is exhausted first, then the delay function is activated.) Warning beeps were used at the United States Shogi Championship (amateur) last year. They may even be used at the professional level in Japan, I'm not sure. For a thirty second byoyomi, there is one warning beep after 10 seconds, another after 20 seconds and a third noise which is heard continuously for the final five seconds. This is a serious warning which allows the player to focus on the board, not the clock, in a time crunch. It works very well.
I believe that the reason that warning beeps are NOT used in Chess is the silence expected at a Chess tournament. This should not be a factor at a Backgammon tournament.
So, warning beeps are used already in serious competition elsewhere.
