I missed that point. Interesting. And btw good thing the player needing 2 did not pass to the player needing 1.
If the players finish the game and start another one, then I am certain that the numbers on the scoresheet of both players seal the outcome if the error is ever detected, as the first player reaching posted match length is the winner whether it should have been Crawford or not.
If the invalid double is detected prior to the end of the game (someone realizes it is really Crawford), I'm sure the director would rule that the double never happened.
However, if the error is detected after the game ends, but before the next one begins, or the cube goes to 4 and the players stop play, and one of the players claim there should have been no cube in the game just finished, I'm not sure what the director would rule. But I'm sure the match length written down on the scoresheets by both players would weigh in as to intent.
