Ridiculous cases make bad law

...but with that said, I'm glad to see all these rulings issues being discussed. If there's anything that would be sure to make the holdouts who are already unhappy at having to use clocks, not to give them a chance, it would be poor or inconsistent rulings. The more that can be settled in advance, the better IMHO. Then if a clock-hater gets an unfavorable ruling, the TD can point to a line in the rulebook or a precedent, and so at least avoid any perception of favoritism or unfairness.

So far, Blue in this problem has to be the biggest imaginary donk we've had to deal with, and I sure see why he got in time trouble in the first place! I would rule that he lost on time if his opponent, after having put up with an entire match of his agonizing over moves as trivial as this one, notices the fallen flag at this moment (before Blue hits the clock) and immediately speaks up. I would use the excuse that it could be argued it wasn't gin since we didn't know how Blue was going to play it--if it took him that long, who knows what he was thinking of doing? An illegal play pulling two from the ace point, perhaps?
