In the early opening, one needs quite a good reason not to hit in opponent's outfield. The 18 point is nice, but Blue's forward position isn't very threatening, so there's no reason to concentrate on defense instead of hitting to gain 14 pips and a tempo, while bidding to escape a checker.

I think 24/14* is clearly best, and I'd expect the other two plays to be close to one another in equity. At GS, of course I'd make the 18 point, but at all other scores I'd hit on the 14.
