The move is trivial in the mathematical sense because the right answer is conceptually obvious and easy to prove correct without recourse to brute-force calculation. (Bill did it anyway, but it was because he could, not because he had to.) The move is also trivial in the popular sense because the equity swing can be measured in what, milli-micro-points? This is kind of what Stick is saying.
If this is typical of the importance of the decisions on which this player has been wasting his time, it's a wonder he didn't time out several games back. Maybe they got to 6-6/7 with two doubled backgammons? I've already said I thought a ruling against him would be fair on the case's merits; and I also see the benefit of getting this guy over to the Consolation where the matches are shorter and he won't be able to cause as much future delay!
