Detecting loss of focus is in fact a very good heuristic. I would imagine that if any player shifts window focus from the playing window to some other window on more than say 50% of their moves during play, that indicates suspicious activities. Sure, you can flip around on occasion, but if you are doing it on each and every move you are either cheating or incredibly rude.
