Ridiculous cases make bad law

Is it because of the tremendous odds to overcome or because it is gin given the move is played correctly?

If it is the first case: In general does claiming a time win make you not think much of a guy? If the answer is no when does it switch to being likely enough to be o.k. in your book. At 1,000,000 to 1, 1000 to 1, 100 to 1, 10 to 1 something else?

If it is the second case: I've seen less obvious moves messed up. And the player put himself in that position.
