Forfeiture / flag falling

MCG: I don't think this should be a consideration since it's obviously illegal...

RM: Of course it is illegal - with the rules as currently written. The question was raised as to whether the rules should be modified so that the match does not officially end if a flag falls and the other player does not claim a win on time. In that case it is perfectly legal for that player to simply choose not to claim and allow the match to continue.

"Claiming" the moment time runs out should be an obligation, not a choice. The match is done. You are wasting time if you keep playing and that is one of the things we'd like to avoid by introducing clocks in backgammon.
