Since there is no good reason to permit the use of computers
I'm going to take issue with this.
First of all, I completely understand and mostly agree with all of the arguments AGAINST playing or allowing matches to be played on computers -- I think they're good arguments. I probably wouldn't do it myself -- Steve Sax once or twice asked me to play a match on Snowie, and I declined.
The good reason for permitting the use of computers to play matches is to easily have a record of the matches. I note that there are VERY few records of matches played OTB. Neil Kazaross notes, rightly, that people like to watch important matches, or matches between strong players. It is a shame that there are so few matches available for people not in attendance to be able to look at.
Certainly, video cameras can mitigate this problem, and I don't think that there is any reason that ANYBODY should insist that a director allow this.
All I wanted to do was to offer a small rebuttal to the "no good reason".
