I can truthfully say that my refusal does not reflect on my opinion of my opponent's ability.

I found it refreshing in Vegas one year when I offered Kit Woolsey 6-5 on any hedge between 3 to $5K. (We were playing for 14K difference). Kit politely declined, stating he thought it was poor form to bet against himself. I got a hedge of $1000 in at 13-10 odds with Falafel. Then I outplayed Kit, only to lose when he made a great comeback. The $1000 did not make me feel any better though.
