3. Wallace Wade ("Wally") Moon was the N.L. rookie of the year in 1954. He was named after Wallace Wade, head football coach at Alabama and Duke in the 1920s to 1940s. The football field at Duke is Wallace Wade Stadium. (Bonus question: What are "Moon" shots?)
4. Chuck Conners played first base for the Chicago Cubs in 1951, and later starred as Lucas McCain in the "Rifleman" TV series from 1958 to 1963.
5. Elijah ("Pumpsie") Green was the first African-American player to play for the Boston Red Sox (1959). The Red Sox were the last major league baseball team to have an African-American player.
