I'm shocked that volunteering is right here. That's not to say I don't believe Snowie on this one. Shifting points still leaves a five point board. Volunteering leaves great 1-1 & 4-4 responses. And, since opponnent usually doesn't have to hit if it isn't best, the play doesn't immediately generate more contact than shifting the inner board point does. The only advantage I see is the stronger inner board. (The racing difference looks very small.) If volunteering is right, I will need to do additional study on this one.
