Larry Bowa of the Philadelphia Phillies was a big competitve rival of Dave Concepcion.
Bowa started calling Concepcion "Elmer". He encouraged others to call him Elmer. Finally, and, of course, English was not Concepcion's native language, Concepcion confronted Bowa about calling him Elmer, and about getting others to call him Elmer.
Bowa, doubtlessly having been fondly awaiting the confrontation, said "I thought it was your name. Every time I look in the box score I see E -- Concepcion."
If Stick was a shortstop in the 70's he'd have probably done it first.
