Is celebrating rude?

David "My and my boy (age 11) screamed out a very loud YES!!!!! after my last roll of my last match in the Midwest Backgammon Championship."
Neil...sounds like you rolled what you needed last roll to win the conso finals in the bearoff. Anyhow, the day that expessions of great emotion like that become unacceptable is the day that I will switch over to a more roudy game..(chess maybe?). I likely would have been pumping my fist into the air, screaming, and high-fiving a friend or two who had bought me in the calcutta if I'd rolled a needed 55 to win on the last roll at DMP in a huge match.
However, BG is supposed to be a gentleman's game, isn't it? With that in mind, I feel that it is OK to celebrate one's own great fortune in a situation like that, however, try to restrain yourself and don't celebrate the opp's bad rolls. ..ie..lets say your opp has checkers on the 1&3 and rolls the losing 21..well it would be quite impolite to do anything except shake his hand and tell him "nice match". After that, you can celebrate the moment with your friends etc.
Anyhow...celebratory emotion is fine by me and it keeps us coming back to play this crazy game. BG is played by humans, we are all human, but lets make sure to not celebrate our opp's really bad rolls, and only our good ones in match ending situations... ie I'd try not to cheer (well not too much (iserts blushing smilie) when the opp rolls 41 and blots vs my last ditch 3pt game, but I might scream "YES !!!" when I roll the hitting ace next shake.
Anyhow..I wasn't there to see the end of your match, being tired (wasn't very well for about the last 2 weeks) and having come home to watch the hockey game, so I didn't see the exact circumstances, so I can not comment on the exact situation.
PS... for those that don't think a little celebration is OK, I must ask if they have ever watched poker tourneys on TV?
Just my opinion.. and I don't expect everyone to agree with it .. neilkaz ..
