The behavior of your opponent as described by you is rude and unacceptable. Fortunately I've never experienced this. I gather you don't want to call out this person by name. (I haven't read any other replies so I don't know if he has been called out by others).

This is probably quite rare and hopefully it won't stop you from playing. If clocks were in use, it would be perfectly reasonable to expect your opponent to STFU while your clock is running. Even without, I guess it depends on your personality as to how much of that nonsense you're willing to take, whether you're able to ignore it, etc.
