Better be sure it's really over!

Several good points in your post, Stickster. I would add that after rolling a miracle hit-and-closeout joker, even if you did momentarily celebrate a bit, it's entirely wrong to keep on celebrating as you sweep up the rest of the blots and bring home the gammon.
Funny that thought should come to mind. I once played a "gentleman" who celebrated loudly and obnoxiously after just such a roll, then went on gleefully gloating as he picked up four more blots, for a total of five, at a match score where gammons worked for him but BG's didn't. If he hadn't been on such a self-induced manic high, he would surely have known better! I hoped (to myself) that my fifth checker on the bar would cost him the game and the match. It did :0))))))) (And yes, I'm celebrating just thinking about it years later!) Sometimes justice is served in ways other than stuffed with chopped celery and bread crumbs.
He later apologized for his behavior, saying that if we where "in his country" it would be considered normal for backgammon players to act that way. But we weren't, and it wasn't. I won't mention his name since he has now classed up his act quite a bit. Yes, people can learn!
