The Travails of Travel

Great, Bill! I had a similar experience with Steve Sax and Bob Glass when I offered to give them a ride to the airport in Chicago a couple years ago, and we realized that I was going to O'Hare, while they were flying out of Midway. Since I was returning a rental car, I could not divert, or at least I did not... Maybe they should get a ride from YOU next time, Bill.
This trip, I offered a ride to Bad Betty and Stacy Turner, and on the way out to the car we realized that they were both headed to Midway, while I was again going to O'Hare, they caught a taxi that was conveniently sitting in front of the hotel so no harm done.
Then Gary Bauer showed up in the lobby and asked me if I was going to O'Hare... I said yes and he hustled and got his stuff. When we arrived, without provocation Gary handed me $20. I guess cab fare was like 45-50 or something, so it was a win/win deal. I mention that because I thought it was classy. Howard Markowitz and David Todd both insisted on giving me $20 bills one time, while others have never offered a dime. I refuse to ask someone to chip in, but it ought to be common sense to do so shouldn't it?
Heck if everyone did that I might have been able to make money driving back and forth to the airport and improved my reputation at the same time. I didn't get any travel vouchers from the airlines... But I drive a fire engine for a living and I would not mind playing taxi to reduce the costs of renting a car. I like the autonomy the rental car provides me, so I usually get one unless it is an "airport" hotel that has a free shuttle.
So FYI BGO'ers, talk to me if you need a ride to the airport. Like Bill, I can be bought!
