Do you consider slow play to be "inappropriate"

I do not consider the use of clocks as 'punishment' to anyone.
Foremost, in my mind, the use of clocks considerably cleans up the mechanics of the game -- the one set of dice eliminates fast rolls and disputed rolls.
Secondly, the use of clocks provides a higher likelihood of tournaments remaining on reasonable schedules. For anyone doubting this fact, please look up Richard Munitz's commentary on this forum regarding his experience with unclocked matches in this year's New York Metropolitan.
The use of clocks does not preclude long matches. Malcolm Davis and I played a clocked match in the Midwest Championship. It was a 12-game, 11-point DMP match with several complicated games -- it lasted in excess of 2 hours. My very next match against Larry Leibster was unclocked. It was an 8-game, 9-point match of much less complexity -- it lasted in excess of 2 hours.
If players, any players, regard the general use of clocks as punishment -- we've lost the battle. I regard the use of clocks as professionalism and efficiency with the further advantage of the elimination of many disputes.
