Gregg "Only with clocks can a single set of dice to be used."

Neil..even in casual games growing up with my Armenian family (we used a wooden board, wooden checkers.. ie NOISY..and one set of dice) your move was complete when you took your hand off the last piece to be moved. When I won the BG event at the Armenian festival here a couple years ago (this was Persian rules noting that many of the Armenians there had come from Iran (their ancestors having escaped the genocide of 1913-15) the game was played the same way. I finished my move and as my hand left contact with the last piece moved, my opp would usually start reaching for the dice.

The only real conflict that can come from this is whether someone actually still had his hand on the checker, but since the "game" is really intended to be touch move and legal moves anyhow, this was never an issue.
