Interesting question. Ray always enters in the second round, perhaps he can explain his logic.

One less round, but, ideally, stronger competition.

If most of the real heavyweights enter the second round it might make some sense for another heavyweight to enter the first round, hope to draw and beat a bit of a weaker player, and be in the second round for half the cash of the others. Particularly if he doesn't have the cash, or prefers not to spring for the cash, to enter the second round
