I played around with the numbers a little bit and it appears that it can go either way depending on your relative advantage in the first round (where the competition should be easier) versus the later rounds. The rake is also relevant. In general, the bigger your incremental advantage is in the first round, the more you are inclined to enter there. [If you are 57% in the first round and 55% in later matches, enter the round of 16. If you are 65% in the first round and 55% later, enter the round of 32.] I'm guessing the round of 16 is the way to go.

If you are strong enough to cover the rake and are able and willing to reenter, it makes the most sense to enter the round of 32 and reenter the round of 16 if needed.

This assumes that all a player cares about is the money. If there is abstract value to a player in winning the event. the round of 16 is certainly the way to go.
