you are ignoring the ROI of 0% on the $1,000 not invested in an entry fee. Entering the round of 16 puts this money to work in a profitable venture too

That's my thinking too. This isn't a choice between entering a round of 32 twice vs entering a round of 16 once, it is a choice between entering the round of 32 once vs entering the round of 16 once.

Once you put it in those terms, and realize that the extra $1000 is going to be stuck in a bank account, or money market account, or your pocket, and earning essentially $0 for the weekend on that $1000, then your ROI on your $2000 is superior upon entering the round of 16, assuming you are a positive equity player to begin with, along with all the other assumptions I made in my original post in this thread.
