In Response To: GNU 2-ply RO (Matt Cohn-Geier)

GNU froze up again after 260 games so I stopped and restarted the rollout continuing on from 260. It seems clear that hitting on the 23 pt is wrong (I'd bet lots and lots of money against that play) but unclear whether 13/11 or 5/3x is the best 2.

Something to consider here is how will the bot play White when 5/3x fails and White ends up making Blue's 5 pt but having no homeboard. Perhaps the bot is clueless in that unusual position, perhaps not, or perhaps bad enough from both sides that reasonable stats are obtained from the rollout anyhow.

To further understand this problem, it may be worth doing some hand rollouts (control the first couple rolls for both sides, to see how often the White ends up making Blue's 5 pt after 5/3x and how often he ends up making Blue's bar pt (not so bad since he may be squeezed off it or otherwise have big problems when White builds a bigger board behind said anchor) after 13/11.
