In Response To: Apologies to Clock Aficionados (Stick)

I think there is one critical point to this discussion which Stick has mentioned in the past, but has gone largely ignored. Players need to learn to roll the dice. That is, they need to learn to get the dice onto the board in a way that they will land flat and not require re-rolling. I remember this once in a while during a game, but still need to work on it myself. (I usually remember it when someone tosses the dice onto the checkers 10 straight times without trying to change anything about their roll - it is maddening.) Stick can play an entire match in 24 seconds because he's not re-rolling. Others may have a problem for that reason. (I have no idea how David Rubin rolls and this isn't a comment about him.) In general, this is part of the skill set players need in the clock era. We shouldn't let poor dice rolling be an excuse for anything.
