In Response To: Apologies to Clock Aficionados (David)

I don't have first hand knowledge of the exact reasons that your match was clocked, noting that I may have been almost completely out of the T by that time, but what I heard and was told was that your bracket was moving along slowly and several players commented on the fact that you were playing slowly as the reason.

The purpose of clocks is to keep the event moving along and to minimize the chances of having very late matches or having many players waiting around a couple or more hours for a bracket delayed due to slow players.

The TC of 2/12 means that players need to make their decisions reasonably promptly or they may end up in serious time trouble like you did. But just consider what would have happened if this had been the former (and thankfully gone for ever I hope) analog rules. You'd have run out of time and lost the match. Note that I made a couple plays with a little less consideration than I'd have liked vs David Rockwell since we were clocked and I wanted to manage my time.

We all have to realize that the typical ABT weekend is not the PG Million not MC World Champs nor even the Vegas Masters with 20k at stake. A typical ABT weekend is very pressed for time and cannot accomodate 11 pt matches taking 3 hours to finish. In spite of having a few of the matches clocked, Stick and Mary had to start their 11pt winner's bracket final at 11:50 pm and this was only a 32 player bracket!

I do applaude the attentive stiff in clocking a few matches to minimize bottlenecks, but I hope they realize that it is really too much to run a DE format in two days even with 32 players and switch next year to a more typical elim format.

Just my opinion .. neilkaz ..
