David, Had you ever been in that time situation before? Like many other possible backgammon situations it is something that can be prepared for. I recommend that all tournament players play a few practice one point matches or even 2a-1a crawford matches with 20 - 40 seconds reserve just to experience it in advance of when it happens in a real match. One technique I recommend in that situation is to keep a running difference count right from the very first roll.
