I find both things repulsive; why shouldn't he?

Clocks are not a perfect solution.

This is the argument I hate. I never once claimed that clocks are the perfect solution. Time scrambles are no fun, and don't lead to good backgammon, but long drawn out matches are no good either. What I'm saying is that Howard, or whomever, better pick their poison if they find both things repulsive. If he, and any other TD, persists in refusing to aggressively clock their tournaments, then they are going to be saddled with slow matches that hold up the brackets. I'm not saying that clocks are going to cure that -- I'm saying that a lack of clocks is SURE to bring about delays.

Howard had a suggestion box at his last tournament. I wrote that he runs a great tournament and that I appreciate all the work that goes into it. I also wrote that the backgammon world needs to join the 21st century and start clocking all matches. I would think that Howard, who schedules his tournament in such a way to maximize the opportunity to enter side events, would be the first to line up for a method that keeps people on pace, allowing them to finish their matches more quickly so that they can enter Blitz number eight thousand, six hundred and forty three.
