2/12 is indeed hurried if you have it in your head that you must make all of your plays using only the 12 second delay time. When I first started playing on a clock this is how I felt. It was rushed. But eventually I realized that I was only using 2 out of my 22 minutes of reserve time. I've since learned that if you simply ignore the clock and play at your normal pace, count pips only when it is truly important to do so, etc. that time is never a concern for me.

That said, I agree with something that Chuck posted some time back. The goal of the delay time should be to allow enough time to shake, roll and make a reasonably straightforward play. It should not provide time to make any tough decisions. That is what the reserve time is for. I have found that 12 seconds is more than adequate to do all that. If time trouble is truly a concern, then as Chuck layed out, the solution is to add more reserve time, not more delay time. 2.5/12 instead of 2/12 adds only 11 minutes of potential match duration to an 11 point match. I would have no problem with that if 2/12 were truly a problem for too many people. I don't think it is. In my experience, the time problems occur either for people who truly play slow and thus dig their own graves, people with physical impediments, or the UBKs of the world who are determined to use however much time they are given and no more.
