My Advice here

Well, to begin with, I am only an intermediate player, so don't expect any brilliant wisdom from my ideas about backgammon.
But in positions like this, I want to share what I do many times:
Copy the matID and posID into GnuBG, hit the hint button and look at the equities. THEN: change the score a little. Or cube position. or move one checker closer to home or whatever.
Here, I changed the score from 0-0 to 1-0 and 2-0 lead for white, and watched after pushing HINT again how this affects the equities.
This process, overall, helped me a lot to figure in these small details and helps to become a better player.
If you never do this, start. For me, this is an enlightening method, really.
And, yes, I am very aware that 2ply and 4ply eval, espec. with cubeaction, is not sufficient.
But the trend on the equitychanges points in the right direction for sure.
