"since average Joes will be making three or more mistakes on checker plays bringing this game home... I doubt a whole lot of players, even very good ones can achieve an equity of higher than 1.000 in this game"..

I thought about this here the other day, I was playing a weak player in a tournament match, and took a small pass in a pos with lots of gammons, and subsequently lost the match.

Since he is weak, I know I would on average be able to squeese out a take, but on the other hand, if I just passed he would be making mistakes in the next game as well. So imo the fact that you get taking equity in an isolated position because of playing strength doesn't necessarily mean you should take.

When I ran it through gnu it was a small pass, but with 'can a fish taste twice as good' met, where I was 200 rating points better than opp gnu said it was a 0.400 blunder.

I think against weak opps in tournament play it is more important to stay clear of positions with big swings, ie 4 cubes, gammonish cubes etc than counting on them to make enough mistakes in those pos to find a take.
