Race and contact

If blue doubles, are you taking as white? Just use Woolseys Rule (if you arent sure if its a take or a pass, then it must be a double).
Certainly I take as white. As blue I probably wait a turn to make it a tougher take/drop decision for white.
This kind of position has an absolute value, so its probably pretty easy to calculate what the correct answer should be.
As far as how to assess this position. With similar wastage, you need a little over 10% lead in the race to redouble this, around 10% race lead to make an initial double - this is for the low race count here (as the race tends to a lower number of pips, you start weighing in with other factors more significantly - like number of rolls to bear off etc).
For white, I would assess this as a crossover count race, white has 16 crossovers to get all checkers off, blue has 18, so white can probably take up to a 16 v 16, perhaps 15 v 16 count, although then you are counting pips, and sweating it for a while too!
Does this help?
